21 mins: Intense Play as Each Side Compete
21st minute: Brisbane advance to the midfield and nearly pierce the opposition defense through Reece Walsh and Gehamat Shibasaki on the left flank. A further superb delivery from Reynolds on the final play keeps the Broncos' pressure. For three tackles they remain in control, but some quick passes free the speedy Hughes, and as he's tackled on the defensive 40m line, a six-again is awarded for holding the player. Melbourne are now in rhythm, and Warbrick slices through the defense, followed by Xavier Coates making a dash – only for Reece Walsh to make high contact with a shoulder charge! Is that a sin-binning? No, says Grant Atkins, because Coates was buckling. Walsh is under review regardless, and Melbourne resume their attack.
19th Minute: Munster Directs Melbourne Offense
19 mins: Munster is active as the Storm charge at speed down to their attacking 30m line. Down the right, Jahrome Hughes lofts a kick, Katoa rushes up, but in the marking contest, the forward loses the ball, and Brisbane at last get a breather.
18th Minute: Melbourne Apply Force on Brisbane
18 mins: The Storm perform a perfect set from the kickoff and apply plenty of force on Mariner with the last tackle kick. Once more, the Brisbane struggle to advance near halfway in reply, and Reynolds is compelled to boot it deep to keep his team in touch.
17 mins: Injury for Storm
17 mins: It’s not all good news for Melbourne. Jack Howarth has been replaced due to a groin issue. Wishart is on in his place.
SUCCESSFUL TRY! Storm 12-6 Brisbane (Eliesa Katoa, 15)
Spectacular, absolutely stunning. Following back-to-back restarts, Brisbane are flagging. On the third play close to the line on the left, Melbourne send the ball infield for a couple of passes before Jahrome Hughes kicks it off the ground and the charging Katoa times his run perfectly to dive on the bobbling ball and stand to celebrate his team’s second try!
From just to the right of the posts, Nick Meaney converts his second conversion.
12 mins: Storm Display Exciting Offense
12 mins: Melbourne appear thrilling in offense. There’s speed from the play-the-ball, grunt from the forwards, and sharp passing from the outside players. A dangerous attack concludes with a high kick to the left corner that is dropped by Reece Walsh and results in a infringement to the Storm for an escort on Coates. The Storm decline the penalty goal and set up under the posts. They get a set restart – and a further one – as Munster dances left and right.
10th Minute: Tense Play
10th minute: Utokiamanu has delivered as promised early and his run from the kickoff enables first Grant, then Ryan Papenhuyzen, to dart from acting half. Hughes boots from 40m and Reece Walsh secures the bomb on his 10m line. The Broncos carry less penetration this drive and get lucky on the final play when Ben Hunt's pass to Reynolds is dropped. Not to worry, the experienced playmaker delivers a great kick to turn Coates around and forces the Melbourne wing to run from his in-goal. The Broncos are too eager with their pursuit, catching the winger high, and Melbourne can gain attacking field position.
SUCCESSFUL TRY! Storm 6-6 Broncos (Nick Meaney, 8)
After the scrum, Utoikamanu drives hard to the 20m line. Then, from quick ball off the back, every key Storm player handle the ball as they move it out to the right edge until Nick Meaney cuts inside, runs at an angle at high speed, and carves through a weak tackle line to dive over for an instant reply!
The centre dusts himself down to kick the goal. It's a tied game!
7th Minute: Teams Trade Sets
7 mins: Both sides exchange conservative sets either side of halfway, but then the Brisbane look to expand on their left side, only to fail to hit Gehamat Shibasaki with the ball. Warbrick advances quickly and forces a dropped ball for his troubles.
5th Minute: Dream Start for Brisbane
5th minute: This marks the absolute dream start for Brisbane, taking the lead before the Storm have even handled the ball, in an attack led by both Payne Haas and Reece Walsh. The Storm might feel a little aggrieved at Grant Atkins blowing such an quick infringement, but they were clearly breached by the rapid Broncos attack.
CONVERTED TRY! Storm 0-6 Brisbane (Deine Mariner, 3)
Following a long kick, the Broncos begin their attack. Melbourne give away a set restart for offside, and quickly the ball is in the danger area. Where is Walsh? Lurking on the right edge, attracting Jack Howarth, standing his ground, then somehow passing to Deine Mariner on his outside. The winger steps inside, reaches the line, then just, only just remains in the playing area as he runs around to touchdown beneath the goalposts.
A review occurs before Adam Reynolds dabs over the goal, but the Bunker upholds the referee's call. Accor Stadium is rocking to the sound of jubilant fans.
2 mins: Quick Penalty
2 mins: Corey Jensen, not Payne Haas, takes the initial carry of the night and the Storm are up sharply… but just three tackles later the Melbourne concede the opening infringement of the game for Harry Grant impeding Haas on the floor. The Broncos immediately in offensive mode.
